Beautiful Books of Fashion and Everything In Between

Here are some books I got for Christmas that are absolutely beautiful. I love coffee table books and feel they can add a little something extra to any interior, especially fashion related ones :). I love to stack them and place a figurine or candle on top of them to add to my design.

This book is sooo stunning. It is a hard cover book that has a satiny soft feel. Alice Temperley is the designer behind the beautiful line of Temperley London. This book is chalked full of beautiful glossy pictures and information about the designer. It is definitely a must buy!

100 Ideas That Changed Fashion is about just as it sounds, the ideas that changed the fashion world. From Coco Chanel, Nylons, Hot Pants to Punk you will learn how the fashion world has morphed to  become what it is today.

I love Yves Saint Laurent! He is most definitely my favorite designer and when I saw this book I just needed to have it.  He modernized Haute Couture making his line have a more street style edge and has refined femininity in many ways.

I recently purchased this book and if you love black & white interiors like I do this book is a must buy for you. This book has pages upon pages of beautiful pictures of interiors that inspire and ignite the imagination.

Gift Show & Home Decor

Today was such a really long day as I went to the International Trade Show with my mother. For those of you who aren't familiar with what this is, its a huge display of different vendors selling this seasons goods to business owners. It isn't open to the public and you have to be invited or sign up with an existing business name to attend. My mom has her own gift store and we now have been going to this show for years. For the most part I find it to be such a mix mash of stuff I personally would never think to buy. Tacky plaques to stick on your walls, lawn ornaments, jewelry, scarfs, teddy bears, candles, food.. pretty much anything you can imagine is at this show. What I do love about these shows however, is the home decor. The one hall is pretty much all home decor, filled with the newest trends and looks that haven't hit shelfs yet ( and all at cost- its pretty amazing how cheap these things are before the mark up!) What I saw today was pretty much an array of black and white accents and furniture with some soft greens, blues, grays and taupe mixed in. Lots of porcelain like figurines, white and natural wood dressers, tables and fire place mantles and of course I spotted the amazing ghost chair too many times to count. There is still a very strong Parisian influence happening, but definitely in a more minimal way... there was a lot less of the fufu, covered in flowers and painted in pastel types of decor. Everything I saw seemed to be minimal and monochromatic, just how I like it :) I'm sure however if you wanted something a little more colorful it wouldn't be hard to find either.. There was something there for everyones taste.

I saw porcelain owls everywhere and not only owls, but a lot of birds just in general.  There was a lot of deer related decor still as well. Antlers, porcelain deer heads and everything of that sort was on display everywhere.

Just a Little Something Ive Been Thinking About Lately

Coco Chanel always said "Before you leave your house each day, take off one accessory that you have put on" or some variation of this -( I have looked for the exact quote, but just can't find it). Basically this quote states that less is more. Personally my style is very minimalistic. I don't like to adorn myself with crazy accessories and clothing. I feel that your own personal beauty should stand above everything else. If someone is seeing your accessories and not you first, theres a problem.

Sometimes when I'm ridding the subway I see some of the craziest dressed people and wonder, "Did you get dressed and do your makeup in the dark this morning?" I have seen all kinds living in Toronto and it never seizes to amaze me. The other day I was taking the subway with my sister back from the mall and two young girls, probably around the age of 18 trotted on. Me and my sister, without saying anything to one another both turned and looked at these girls. These two young woman were not only wearing the tackiest jackets I have ever seen, but the one girls hair looked like it was glowing with grease. Now my question here is "Do you think you look good and why would you ever leave the house with your hair like that?" I feel the way you dress and do your makeup/hair is how the world is going to perceive you.
(you portray the image you want people to see and think of you) If you dress your self nice and classy, the world will perceive you as a classy woman with a good sense of self and style- even if the classy part isn't true. My point here is that at first glance, I did not think that these two young girls were of the classiest kind. They may be very nice people, who knows, but the image they are portraying the world is not to that effect.

Now some may say "You can't always judge a book by its cover" and this is very true, but unfortunately we live in world that is based a lot upon image. Your image can be the main reason why you don't get a job, get a job, someone may be afraid of you, or why someone may think a certain way about you. Soo if your applying for a professional job, dress professional- Let your outer meet your inner beauty, but never let your own personal style fade! It's important to be an individual while dressing the best you can!

My boyfriend is a good example of this. He's an amazing guy with a great personality, super smart and has a lot going for him, but he just doesn't care about the way he looks half the time. He wears ripped jeans that have ripped not because they have came that way, but because of over wear... and it shows.  He also insists on wearing the ugliest sneakers I have ever seen. They look like he's preparing for the next mission to the moon.  He also doesn't care if his tops have holes in them and it doesn't matter how much i nag him he will not change his ways. With me being someone that loves fashion and really takes pride in the way I present myself it drives me crazy! haha I hope eventually he will take the extra time to always make sure he's presentable :)

Update Jan 16/2012

Yesterday I tried to upload some pictures I had taken of some of my favorite Items I had purchased, but my computer for some reason, wont let me upload them. I recently had a problem with my Mac, so I went to the crowded and extremely hot Apple store to get it fixed. The woman at the store removed some items from my computer and I'm not sure if this recent change has something to do with me not being able to do so.  I'm going to try and figure this little problem out and then hopefully soon Ill be able to make my blog a little more personal.
